Kevin Means, CFA®

Kevin Means is the Chief Investment Officer (CIO) of Sapient Investments. The firm is built upon Kevin’s experience and expertise in portfolio management, quantitative modeling, risk management, and asset allocation. As a former long/short equity hedge fund and mutual fund manager, chief investment officer, asset allocation strategist, and director of quantitative research, Kevin’s background is ideally suited for managing Sapient’s portfolios.

Kevin began his career as an Equity Portfolio Manager and Director of Quantitative Research at Invesco Capital Management. At the end of his tenure, he became the CIO of Invesco Management and Research.

After working for Invesco, he was the CIO of Equities at Aeltus Investment Management (the Aetna investment subsidiary), where he was responsible for the firm’s $22 billion in equity assets under management and served as the Lead Portfolio Manager of various mutual funds totaling $11 billion.

Subsequently, he was the Founder, Managing Partner, and CIO of Alpha Equity Management, a firm that managed a variety of long/short hedge funds and mutual funds. He developed the quantitative models and disciplines that guided the firm’s investments and served as the Portfolio Manager of all of the firm’s funds, including a Morningstar five-star long/short mutual fund.

He then founded Select Alternative Investments, a predecessor firm to Sapient Investments with a very similar investment methodology. SelectAlts specialized in alternative ETF portfolios designed to provide a low correlation to both stocks and bonds.

Before founding Sapient, Kevin was the CIO at a wealth management firm where he redesigned the stock selection methodology and revamped the asset allocation models for mutual fund and ETF selection.

Kevin has a BA in Economics from The College of William and Mary, an MA in Theology from Fuller Theological Seminary, and an MBA from the University of Virginia. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst.
